On June 18, 2019, HPA-China and its partners International Probiotics Association (IPA), FoodMate and China Chamber of Commerce. will host the first annual “Probiotics China” Forum. This forum aims to create a platform for communication between domestic and international probiotic manufacturers, end-user companies and related service providers. Based on this, the forum will provide resources and information services for overseas companies to enter the Chinese market and domestic companies to find good raw materials outside China.
The forum will take place in Shanghai, China and is positioned the day before HNC / FiAsia China Expo also held in Shanghai. HNC / FiAsia China Expo is one of the largest shows in China for finished supplements, health products and nutritional health ingredients. ABOUT PROBIOTICS IN CHINA
The probiotics industry has developed rapidly in recent years. According to industry analysis company GIA data, since 2005, the global probiotics product market growth rate is about 10%-15%, which is one of the global high-speed growth industries. Among them, the market performance in the Asia-Pacific region is eye-catching. According to the data of the Probiotics Branch of the China Food Science and Technology Society, the share of Asia-Pacific probiotics consumption in the global scale has further expanded to 47%, much higher than Europe 22%, North America 16.5% and Middle East 6.5%.
Although China’s probiotics industry started late, its development speed is extremely rapid. In 2010, the market size of China’s probiotics products was about 22.2 billion Yuan, and it rose to 55.3 billion Yuan in 2017, with an annual growth rate of 17%. If this growth rate is maintained, it is expected to reach a scale of RMB 142 billion Yuan in 2023.
At the raw material side, DuPont and Chr-hansen accounted for about 85% of the raw material market, and only four companies in China have an output value of more than 10 million. At the application end, 85.9% of the probiotics enter the general food field, 8.6% enter the health products and medicines, 5.6% probiotics cycle in the production of food industry. 78.4% of probiotics have entered the field of fermented dairy products, becoming the most important driving force for the growth of the domestic probiotics industry. In terms of health care products (dietary supplements), China’s market is dominated by foreign brands, and a large number of overseas finished products enter China through cross-border e-commerce channels. In 2017, Taobao data showed that Australia’s life-space accounted for 47.36% of the total cross-border probiotics product sales. The late start of the domestic industry, the regulatory restrictions and the mass market’s lack of education on probiotics products have led to the domestic finish products segment to lag behind its overseas counterparts.
