On January 8, the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China issued an announcement that, according to the “Food Safety Law” provisions, the review body organized experts to review and pass the safety assessment materials on three new food ingredients: cicada flower substrates (artificial cultivation), sodium hyaluronate, and Lactobacillus equi-like subspecies. Especially, based on the approved use in other countries and international organizations, sodium hyaluronate has applied for expanded use in milk and dairy products, beverages, alcohol, cocoa products, chocolate products, candies, and frozen beverages. Due to current registration and approval of increasingly strict functional health food, new food ingredients can become an excellent tool for upstream enterprises to expand the market.
