At least 15 batches of problematic organic food have been identified by the authority since 2016, according to Legal Daily. Four of the cases involve misconduct of certification authorities, which have been punished by the regulators.
Inadequacy of management is regarded as a major cause for problems of organic food, as explained by experts.
Two measures can be considered taken to help better regulate the organic food market. First, relevant products should not be allowed to use the word “organic” in the name of the product, which may mislead the local consumers. Punishment towards vendors of substandard products should be strengthened. Secondly, more management should be applied to regulate the market.
Regulations towards staffs of certification authority for organic food should also be strengthened. (Source: Legal Daily)
