The local food and drug authority of Guangdong province said that recently the spot check have spotted several health food that claim to have “magic effects” with illegal additives.

The regulators spot checked 100 batches of health food that claimed to the above effects, 13 batches of which that claim to have special effects to alleviate fatigue were found to be added with illegal additives. 8 batches of products that claim to control blood pressure were also found with the same problem. The substandard rates of these two kinds of products were 26% and 16% respectively.

10 batches of the problematic products were found to be without official approval as health food, and information of 11 batches were found to be inconsistent with that registered with the regulators.
