China’s online portal Sohu.com recently shut down 128 social media accounts on its platform that are accused of spreading fake health-related information and conduct false advertisement of health products.
The local site has recently conducted an online inspection over illegal social media accounts, after receiving an increasing number of complaints from online users that some accounts on its platform are spreading “fake science” and selling substandard health food.
Relevant cases include ads that use “expert” or ” doctor” to sell their products and not warn the side effects of the products. Some of the ads also fake advertisement aired on the state broadcasters. Some ads also claim that the products provide some innovative treatment over some certain diseases, including cancer.
