The first batch of directly imported goods for cross-border e-commerce platforms passed the customs in Jilin province ‘s tax-free zone recently. The goods include 236 packages of imported shoes, infant food and health food from the U.S., with the total value of 46,194yuan.
The import signals the official kick-off of direct import services for cross-border e-commerce platforms in Jilin province.
As explained by an official at the customs. so far there are two models for retail import sales by cross-border e-commerce platforms: direct import and tax-free zone import. The latter refers to the import by the e-commerce platforms which bought a certain number of goods and stored at the tax-free zone first before getting specific orders from customs.
Direct import has several advantages over the other model, including reducing import procedures, getting packages quickly delivered and offer customs lower price. Customs can directly place order of goods that will ship directly from outside the country, which helps companies to lower the cost.
The kick-off of direct import helps to enhance confidence of local companies. “This year it is expected to see over 4.2 million packages to be imported via cross-border e-commerce platforms in Jilin,” said Zhu Jingying, director of Jilin Yaoying International logistics Co. Ltd. (Source: changchun.govt.cn)
