June 23, 2015 Shanghai – The association hosted the “China International Probiotic and Omega-3 Summit at the Marriott Renaissance Yu Garden Hotel. Seventy leaders from the global probiotic and omega-3 industry turned out to learn, share and network.

Speakers included:

USCHPA’s Jeff Crowther who covered the changing regulatory environment for supplements as well as insight to the growing cross border e-commerce business in China.

China Gate Consulting’s Mr. Wendell Wei who covered ingredient registration processes and the impact China’s new food safety law will have on the entire industry.

Euromonitor’s Stacie Wan who outlined the global sales and trends for probiotics and omega-3s.

China Clinical Nutrition Alliance’s Dr. Cai Donglian discussed the importance of probiotics as well as current research.

GOED’s Adam Ismail gave an introduction to the important role Omega-3s EPA / DHA play in human health and highlighted the latest research as well as the hurdles omega-3s have faced recently.

The Summit was followed by a two-hour cocktail party as part of the overall theme of providing ample time to network with colleagues and Chinese industry leaders such as Infinitus, Shanghai Pharma, Tasly, Tien’s, Tong Ren Tang, Wahaha etc.

The conference was followed by FiAsia / CPHI expo held June 24-26, 2015. This is the largest expo in China for ingredients (both nutritional and APIs) and finished products. However, this year the show wasn’t as busy as last year, which was a sentiment many members shared. This is most likely due to China’s increased crackdown on the dietary supplement industry that began in early 2014 and has continued. Also the incessant rain probably didn’t help matters.

USCHPA is in the process of organizing the “China International Nutrition and Health Industry Summit” set to take place on November 5-6, 2015 in Beijing. So put that on your calendar and make plans to join in.

Last years’ N&H Summit was attended by 110 industry leaders as well as China FDA, China Nutrition Society, China Chamber of Commerce, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Commercial Officers from the Embassies of Canada, Israel, U.S. and the EU Delegation.
